PolyMedix is a publicly traded biotechnology
company focused on the development of novel drugs
and biomaterials for the treatment of acute
cardiovascular disorders and infectious diseases.
PolyMedix’s compounds are based on biomimetics:
non-peptide small molecule drug candidates and
polymers that mimic the activity of proteins. Using
its proprietary computational drug design
technology, PolyMedix has created its two lead
product candidates, PMX-60056 (heptagonist) and
PMX-30063 (novel antibiotic). PMX-60056 (heptagonist)
is being developed to reverse the activity of both
heparin and Low Molecular Weight Heparins. PMX-30063
(antibiotic) is a small molecule that mimics human
host-defense proteins. Both of these products have
successfully completed Phase 1B clinical trials with
Phase 2 clinical trials planned to commence during
2010.
PolyMedix’s product candidates have been rationally selected
because we believe they represent attractive medical and commercial
opportunities and are characterized by:
- Major unmet medical needs;
- Relatively short clinical trials to demonstrate proof of principle of
clinical utility;
- Indications that may allow for accelerated regulatory review or development
paths;
- Objective clinical endpoints and assessment criteria; and
- Availability of animal models that are often considered predictive of
potential human activity.
